No news is good news, right?

I haven't updated the blog lately, because really, there isn't much interesting stuff to say. I'll see if I can't recap the past week or so:
1) Beth still likes Kindergarten. Her teachers speak highly of her. Yeah!
2) Bob and I visited a local private school to consider for Beth next year. We really liked it. Its small - 250 or so kids K-12. Each class has around 15-18, but can take more and they "split the class" which is what they'll have to do with the 1st grade class next year, if everyone on "the list" actually enrolls. Its somewhat expensive, but I think its worth it to us. I just don't think I can fight the public school system, and fighting is what I'd be doing. Its just too exhausting.
3) The remnants of Hurricane Ike hit us yesterday - no rain, just lots of strong wind. We didn't have any damage, but there was a lot of damage around town. We were kinda hoping a shingle or two would fly away - we need a new roof! :-)
4) Nothing new with Sarah. Boy, would I like to get her potty-trained soon.
5) Kids Closet prep is in full swing. All the advertising is done, so I can kinda sit back and relax for a while, with the exception of dealing with the radio stations. Oh wait, I lied, I still have LOTS & LOTS of bows to make. I'm also making ponytail streamers this sale - I'll get some pictures of Beth modeling them - I told her she could be my "bow model" and she got all excited, but Lord knows I don't make the darn things for her to actually wear! She hates all things frilly in her hair (and now, I'm starting to lose Sarah, too...she is hating her bows and barretts, too, and she NEEDS them to keep her hair out of her face- she's just a mess!)
6) It should be a somewhat quiet week. We have a big downtown event Friday night and then Bob wants to go camping Saturday. Oh yeah.

Pulling out all the stops

Bob is in Baltimore...Maryland. My back-ups, my parents, are in Lexington. I'm at home...with the girls...by myself....ALL weekend. :-)

SOOO....I've pulled out all the stops to keep everyone in good spirits, not whiny, and not stir-crazy. Yesterday, we went to Blockbuster and I let each girl pick a movie for "movie night" in my bed, which Beth LOVED. And we also went to Wal-Mart to look for napmats for Beth, and ended up ordering on Ebay instead. We ate dinner on the floor, the girls had a long bath and we called it a night.

This morning, we stayed in PJ's till 9am, then we went for walk (since it was only about 70 degrees) up to mom and dad to get their mail and newspapers, and then we stopped by an empty lot and picked nice, ripe red apples off the tree (which I cut up during naptime and threw in the crockput to make Applesauce). We relaxed for a while at home, then went to McD's for lunch and what ended up as an HOUR on the McD's playground. A cousin of mine was there, so I chatted with her while the girls played. They both took awesome naps and then it was up and out the door again, to another local playground. Dinner in the den again, and the evening in the backyard...with sidewalk chalk...then buckets of water and paintbrushes...which ended up being a water fight. Bubble baths, homework for Beth...then bedtime!




And we get to do it all again tomorrow...and we are throwing Church into the mix. I'm tired.

Beth's First Day of Kindergarten

Our traditional "front porch" photos before heading off to school at the ungodly hour of 7:40 this morning. Ugh. If you look closely, you can really see how tired she is - she isn't a great morning child. This year should be interesting...

I can't believe I have a Kindergarten girl! AUGH! I did okay this morning - no time for tears and she was SO ready to go. The one moment when I did almost cry was when I realized that on this day next year, I'd be taking my baby, Sarah, to 3-year-old Nursery school. Oh geez....really....is she growing that fast, too??

I'll dig up Beth's 1st day photos from 3-year-old and 4-year-old Nursery School and do a comparison soon - gotta find those pictures first!

Then & Now

This picture of Beth was taken at the Bass Pro Shop in Destin in July 2005. She was 2 (28 months old).


Same location- 3 years later. Beth is now five and Sarah is exactly the same age as Beth in the above picture - 28 months.


I just think its neat to see how much the girls have grown from year to year!

Sarah

Sarah Palin, that is. The GOP VP candidate. Awesome!

Granted, three days ago, I didn't know squat about this woman, but now that we DO know who she is and I'm learning, I'm so excited. I think the one thing I'm most excited about is that she is a working mom....of five kids. Well, technically, 3 kids still at home, since one is in the army and heading to Iraq and the other one (17 girl) is getting ready to get married (b/c she is pregnant, if you haven't already heard). BUT, family drama is in every family, in one way or the other, so she is really no different than the rest of us....basically your real American mom, with the exception of maybe being the Vice President and the current Alaskan Govenor. She's "real" and I think that is why I like her.

I can hear all the chatter now, about her working and having five kids and "if she hadn't been working and been at home raising those kids where she should have been, that 17 year old girl wouldn't have gotten pregnant!" Whatever people....get a life. Its 2008. Everyone has their own opinion.

My opinion is I like her. I'm thrilled McCain chose a working mom to be his running mate. And from what I gather...she's a real pistol!!! That'll be my Sarah in 40 years!!
